The new Mitsubishi Mirage went on sale in Thailand not too long ago, but already, the Japanese automaker is expanding its lineup with a subcompact sedan version of the four-door hatchback. Named the Attrage, the four-door sedan is scheduled for launch in July.
With a name derived from the word “attractive” the Attrage is defined by a short, stubby nose that Mitsubishi says will allow excellent forward visibility. The automaker also boasts a tight turning radius and, for a car so small, generous interior space. Thanks to its aerodynamic design, the Attrage has a 0.29 coefficient of drag (the Mirage hatch has a 0.28 coefficient of drag), and the car should be competitive in the mpg race.

For reference, the 2014 Mitsubishi Mirage hatchback slated for the U.S. has better EPA-estimated mileage than any other non-hybrid gas vehicle currently offered. With a CVT, the 2014 Mirage subcompact is expected to get 37/44 mpg city/highway when it arrives in dealers this fall, so we can expect the Attrage to achieve something in that range, and don’t be surprised to see a Mirage sedan (possibly wearing Attrage badges) roll into U.S. Mitsubishi dealerships sometime after the hatchback.
Like the Mirage, the Attrage will be powered by a 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine paired to a CVT or a five-speed manual transmission. Depending on the market, the Mirage is also available with a 1.0-liter I-3 and engine stop-start technology. Mitsubishi appears to have big plans for the Attrage, as it plans to produce more than 100,000 units a year after the fifth year of production.
