Mitsubishi has released teaser images of its 2013 Geneva Motor Show concepts: the Concept GR-HEV and Concept CA-MiEV. The automaker calls the first a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) sport utility truck, and the latter a suburban EV. These concepts fall inline with the Japanese automaker’s goal to offer eight electric, hybrid-electric, and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles by 2015, and we wonder whether we’ll ever see production variants of these concepts in the U.S.
With advances in battery and electric drivetrain technology, Mitsubishi says the Concept CA-MiEV is a next-generation EV that might be ready for more suburban driving than the i-MiEV can handle. The latest EV system, high-density batteries, lightweight materials, and aerodynamic styling will give the Concept CA-MiEV a range as high as about 180 miles. The concept also features magnetic resonance wireless charging technology and smartphone integration.
The Outlander PHEV, originally shown at the 2012 Paris auto show, will also be on Mitsubishi’s 2013 Geneva display. Expect that model, and production versions of the two concepts, to join the Mitsubishi i-MiEV on showrooms sometime in next few years.
