The Volvo XC40 we’ve spied in these photos demonstrates that the enduring appeal of SUVs isn’t lost on the Swedish automaker, despite its traditional focus on wagons. Our spy photographer recently caught the upcoming compact crossover hiding under camouflage testing in Europe.

We don’t expect the Volvo XC40 will make it to the U.S., as it’s based on the not-for-U.S. V40 hatchback. The XC40 features an elevated ride height over the V40 thanks to a raised suspension similar to the Subaru-Impreza based XV Crosstrek.
