Citroen has revealed first pictures and full details of its new C4 Picasso – and the MPV is set to be 140kg lighter than the current car, and combine CO2 emissions as low as 98g/km with class-leading space.
As part of a bold new look, Citroen’s latest double-chevron grille extends from each of the slim LED daytime running lights, with larger headlamps sitting below these. At the rear, is a set of 3D-effect LED tail-lights.
Despite being lower and shorter than the outgoing car, the new Picasso has a 55mm longer wheelbase. This increases rear legroom and takes boot space up by 40 litres to 537 litres. The rear seats can slide forwards to increase this to 630 litres.
Up front, a seven-inch touchscreen controls the air-con, sat-nav and infotainment system, while another 12-inch HD screen displays driving information and sat-nav instructions. This can even be customised with a photo.
Citroen offers a powered tailgate, a reversing camera and a new 360-degree camera system. There’s a blind-spot monitoring set-up, lane departure warning and adaptive cruise control, too.
The highlight of the engine range is the 1.6-litre e-HDi 90 Airdream. When hooked up to the new six-speed automatic gearbox, this promises those class-leading emissions, as well as 74.3mpg fuel economy. Even the big-selling e-HDi 115 offers 70.6mpg and 104g/km.
New suspension and a lower centre of gravity should improve the handling, while better sound insulation boosts refinement.
The new Citroen C4 Picasso goes on sale this summer, with prices from around £20,000. A seven-seat C4 Grand Picasso is expected in dealers next year. For more details click here.
